Schedule

This schedule may be updated depending on what you want to spend more/less time on

Kick Off Meeting (June 15-21)

Before we officially start I want to meet with everyone, we’ll discuss what the group is interested in so I can put together the parts list we’ll need.

Week 1 (June 22-28) – CAD

Learn how to model 3D objects

Week 2 (June 29-July 5) – Circuits

Learn how create a circuit, light up LEDs and run motors.

Finalize the CAD models and submit them for 3D printing.

Week 3 (July 6-12) – Building and wiring

By now I’ll hopefully have everyone’s CAD designs submitted so I can 3D print them and bring them to class. Using what we learned the previous week, we’ll attach our controller, motors, and sensors to the base and wire them up.

Week 4 (July 13-19) Intro to programming

We’ll be using the Arduino IDE, using their version of the C programming language. We’ll learn basic microcontroller input/output this week, turning on LEDs and reading when buttons are pressed.

Week 5 (July 20-26) Control and signal processing

We’ll learn how to control the motors with the H-Bridge, getting variable speed control; we’ll read the signals from the ultrasonic sensor and learn how to use them to measure distance.

Week 6 (July 27-August 2) Programming the goal

We’ll put everything together to make the robot perform an autonomous task of the student’s choosing Examples:

  • Maze solving robot
  • RC Control that prevents users from bumping into objects
  • Find and push all objects out of a space

Week 7 (August 3-9) Project showcase

Parents and family are encouraged to come and see each student showcase their robot and what they learned over the summer!
